Creating Little Worlds

How did Filipe create this picture?

A lot of overlapping images were taken while the camera was rotating. Those images were taken in the Olympiapark, Munich (exactly N48° 10' 12.66", E11° 33' 6.60"), from 17:41 until 17:52 in a sunny day. Then Filipe created a panorama from those images. 

The panorama image was loaded in Photoshop, canvas was 180 degrees rotated and the filter Distort -> Polar Coordinates was applied. After adjusting the scale and rotating, the resulting middle black hole was filled using the Clone Stamp Tool and extending the sky to cover the black area using the Smudge Tool:
